Our Consulting Work

Led by Micheline McKay, Micheline McKay + Associates (MM+A) is a consulting practice committed to encouraging a positive policy climate for its clients in the cultural sector. We believe passionately that the lives of all Canadians are enriched by a vibrant creative sector and we work to cultivate an environment that nurtures and sustains the artistic spirit.

MM+A works with organizations in the public and not-for-profit cultural sector to provide policy analysis, organizational development and issues management. Simply put, our goal is to strengthen the arts, heritage and cultural industries in Canada.

Grounded in a comprehensive understanding of the political and policy environments affecting Canada's cultural sector, our consulting work includes:

  • Policy analysis and research
  • Stakeholder development
  • Issues management
  • Organizational development

Recent work

Over the past year, MM+A principal Micheline McKay has successfully worked with the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors (stakeholder consultation and organizational development), the Ontario Museum Association (public policy environmental scan), the Professional Association of Canadian Theatre (strategic planning) and the City of Toronto (stakeholder interviews for future of Casa Loma, with Jennifer Ginder.)

In 2006, MM+A was retained by Arts and Culture Partners Canada, a collaboration of private foundations, corporate donors and government granting agencies, to present a forum exploring the link between creativity, innovation and corporate success. Prior to that, Micheline McKay interviewed many of the same stakeholders across the country to prepare a report on the potential for an affinity group to serve Canadian grantmakers (in collaboration with Jennifer Ginder). A second study for the same client group researched the operations of affinity groups in Canada and abroad.

Since 1996, Micheline and MM+A have worked with the Canadian opera sector to build Opera.ca, the national association for opera.
